Girl Guides VYPER awards in conjunction with ERVAS

Girl Guide Young Leaders from throughout East Yorkshire assembled on Friday 21st November to receive their VYPER  awards.   The award recognises the hours of hard work which young persons aged 11 – 26 contribute to volunteering in Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units throughout the County and is administered by East Riding Council for Voluntary Youth Services. In total , 141 Young Leaders have stacked up an amazing 8342 hours of volunteering.   The award is cumulative starting with 30 hours and ending with an award for over 400 hours.   Many of the Young Leaders received  bronze, silver and gold certificates.  Young Leaders have been involved with all aspects of running the units, from planning the programme, teaching new skills, attending camps and taking part in trips and outdoor activities.

2014-11-21 20.52.22Girl Guide President Margaret Brennand opened the ceremony saying ‘what a pleasure it was to congratulate the Young Leaders and celebrate their achievements’.   Paul Hammlet from ERVAS explained the scheme in more detail, emphasising the many benefits of the scheme, from personal achievement through supporting others to the CV enhancing ability of the award accreditation.  Amy Wright (12) volunteer with a Rainbow unit said ‘Since taking part in the scheme my confidence has grown and I have loved teaching new skills to the Rainbows such as origami and having fun going on trips’
