News From North Wolds West Division

Pocklington Town Mayor, Councillor Roly Cronshaw,  joined North Wolds West Division Rangers on Monday, 17th November to award DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) awards and Guide Gold Awards.

The evening started with four girls giving an account of their recent silver DofE expedition in The Dales, which is a requirement for them to go onto receive their silver Award.

Four different girls then received both silver and bronze DofE awards and three bronze DofE awards.

They have all done amazingly with volunteering in a wide range of areas – many as Girlguiding Young Leaders, but also at Barnardo’s and helping in different environmental projects in the NY Moors. Their skills sections included growing vegetables in the allotments, drama and developing employment skills, whilst physical activities included tennis, running and dance.

The girls all completed expeditions they planned themselves, carrying their kit and camping overnight. Bronze expeditions are relatively close to home in the Yorkshire Wolds, while silver expeditions are in the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales.

We have also had three girls – Emily Macey, Alicia Reed and Eleanor Taylor receive their Gold DofE awards at Buckingham Palace in May this year with Carys Haeney opting for a later date as it was her last day at school.

Four new Rangers received the Guide Gold Award having earned a variety of badges from our six different themes including several new ones over the summer including Food Critic, Clean Planet and Interior Designer.

Congratulations to everyone!
