Advocate panel

We’re currently recruiting for nine new members of Advocate, Girlguiding’s youth panel which discusses the things girls care about and seeks change.

Advocates get the chance to talk regularly to MPs and Government Ministers, Peers, chief executives and inspirational figures about body confidence, representation of girls and women in the media, education, teenage mental health, role models for girls, work experience and careers, and PSHE in schools – and consider how things could change for the better. In the last 12 months the Advocates have had the chance to take on new challenges – speaking on a panel at Girlguiding roundtable events, taking part in a stand-up comedy workshop, taking over Girlguiding’s Twitter account during events, and speaking to the media about equality for girls and women.

Does that sound like something members in your region would be interested in?

Applications are open to all members who will be aged between 14 and 25 on 1 September 2014. It doesn’t matter how long someone has been in guiding, or what their experience is, but they do have to be interested in the issues affecting girls and young women, passionate about speaking out about the important things in their lives, and ready to champion Girlguiding at a national level.

Please encourage local Advisers and Leaders to spread the word, and pass on the message to any Girlguiding members you know who might be interested! Visitwww.girlguiding.org.uk/advocate for more information.
